Deckhand Nick Mavar of 'Deadliest Catch' Has Died

Mavrar, who appeared on 17 seasons of the Discovery Channel series, was 59.

He died Thursday of natural causes in Bristol Bay, Alaska, according to a statement from Discovery.

Mavrar joined the Northwestern in 2005 and quickly became a fan favorite for his hard work and dedication. He was known for his quick wit and his ability to get the job done, even in the most dangerous conditions.

In a statement, Captain Sig Hansen said, "Nick was a true fisherman and a great friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him."

Mavrar is survived by his wife, Julie, and their two children.
