Results from the world's biggest election will be announced today with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to clinch a rare third term in office.

Votes are being counted after hundreds of millions of Indians voted to choose their new government in an election that was held in seven phases and ended on May 23.

With 37 percent vote share in the 2019 election, the right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 303 of 543 seats in the lower house of parliament.
